Sisters Germaine, Aretha, Yoko, Mariah and baby Cher live with their brother Wyatt and their mother Della on a Wolverhampton council estate.
The Garry family are taken to find out more about nature by their survivalist mother Della to forage for free food and 'shug up'. Germaine comes up with a psychologically unhealthy way to get closer to the boy of her delusional dreams.
When Germaine's vicious 'visible panty line' traumatises the only male Garry child, Della takes the kids into town on an emergency underwear mission.
In a Wolverhampton heatwave, cousin Cathy arrives at the Garry home, and soon catches the eye of Lee, Germaine's would-be boyfriend. Della, meanwhile, is attempting self-sufficiency to reduce her massive food bill.
Della and the children attempt to help Grampy following a family bereavement. Della decides to take him into the family home and as the funeral draws closer, Grampy's lacks any suitable footwear forcing Della to venture into her mother's sinister inner sanctum with Aretha, where they come face to face with her unusual family memorabilia.
Germaine is pleased to learn that Cathy and Lee have broken up and she takes a reluctant Aretha and Yoko to legendary nightclub 'The Dorch' in an effort to win Lee's heart.
