BoJack promotes Secretariat in New York, though quickly gets bored of it. He nearly has an affair with a journalist, who records BoJack's confession that he was digitally replaced in post-production. Despite this, BoJack's agent Ana makes the matter disappear. Meanwhile, Princess Carolyn struggles in her new agency.
In 2007, Princess Carolyn finds a new project for BoJack, Diane meets Mr. Peanutbutter at the coffee shop where she works, and Todd kisses a girl.

On a drug-fueled bender, BoJack and Sarah Lynn crash a AA meeting, and BoJack decides to make amends to the people he hurt. However, BoJack's attempts at reconciliation are boggled by drug-induced blackouts. Eventually, both BoJack and Sarah Lynn realize that they don't like themselves, and decide to go back to Los Angeles after Sarah Lynn wins an Oscar (which she completely forgotten). The two visit a planetarium, where Sarah Lynn ultimately dies of a drug overdose in BoJack's arms as he ponders their existence in the universe.
Mr. Peanutbutter saves the day when Pacific Ocean City is threatened by a pasta catastrophe, and is later contracted by his ex-wife Katrina to become the Governor of California. Todd gets exciting news when he becomes a millionaire through his business, and even though later loses it at a diner, he finds comfort in Emily, who he confides in and comes out as asexual. Diane receives a job at a community blog, while Princess Carolyn pursues her newly-realized dream to become a manager, and later receives a call from a teenage horse inquiring about BoJack. BoJack decides to do Ethan Around, a sequel series of Horsin' Around, though later backs out of it after a child actress tells him she wants to be like him when she grows up. BoJack ends up leaving Los Angeles, and even contemplates suicide until he sees other horses running alongside the highway.
