Kevin visits architectural designer Lincoln Miles and his wife, Lisa Traxler, who are hoping to build their own home on the Isle of Wight.
Kevin meets Francis Shaw who purchased a crumbling castle on English Heritage's Buildings at Risk Register. Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the peel tower dates back to the 15th century and was protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Francis finally got permission to start working on the building after fighting loads of red tape that took several months. After over two years work, Francis and his wife Karen finally moved moved in and Kevin returns to discover that the cost of restoring the castle has meant the dream is nothing like Francis imagined it would be.
Kevin meets Lucie Fairweather and Nat McBride who returned to their home town of Woodbridge in Suffolk to build a new home for themselves and their young family.
Simon Bennett and his wife Jill gave up their life abroad to return to Simon's home county of Suffolk three years ago. They ended up buying two timber framed barns that where ready for conversion. One of the barns ended up not quite as it seemed though as it turned out to be one of the smallest surviving medieval guild halls in the country. Simon and Jill then had to face the challenge of how to convert a single storey sixteenth century barn into a modern home and then decide what to do with the other barn. Kevin meets with them to offer them advise.
Kevin meets with Jonathan Belseyand his new partner Lindsay who are building their first home together which will have room for their combined family of four daughters.
Kevin meets with Kathryn Tyler who decided the best way to get onto the property ladder was to design and build the house herself. Her idea was to build a house on a hillside plot in her parents' back garden in Falmouth but the plans were put on hold when Kathryn's father died. Kathryn is now ready to put the plans back on track and Kevin is there to monitor it's progress.
Kevin meets with Alan Dawson has invented his own new way of building a house. The idea is like a giant Meccano set that he is going to make in pieces in his workshop.
Kevin meets Robert and Milla Gaukroger who purchased a plot of land overlooking Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park. They plan to redevelop the 1980s house on the site which will end up quadrupling its size.
Kevin meets with Daren Howarth and Adi Nortje who left Brighton to move to Brittany four years ago to take on a huge life experiment. Their idea was to build an earth-sheltered home almost nearly created from recycled materials.
Kevin meets Bill Bradley and his wife Sarah who intend to built not one but two timber houses in south London on the site of Bill's former wood workshop.
Kevin meets Thomas and Dervla O'Hare who six years ago decided to build a split-level home cascading down a practically vertical hillside in Belfast.
In 2003 Mark Sampson and his wife Debbie moved to the Lot region of France to build their dream home. Kevin pays them another visit to see whether their new house has lived up to it's original brief.
Andrew Tate and Deborah Mills discovered a site with a dilapidated, 100 foot tall water tower on it ten years ago and they saw it as the perfect location to build a family home and convert the old water tower into a seven-storey bedroom wing. Kevin returns once again to see how their lives are now.
Pru and Richard Irvine created a bespoke family home in the beautiful Midlothian countryside. The house ended up not blending in with the surrounding countryside and Kevin revisits them a year and a half after they moved in.
