Kahlan and sister Dennee attempt to get to the Boundry to go through at give Richard the Book of Counted Shadows. On their journey they must escape from The Quad, a band of soldiers ruled by Darken Rahl. When Dennee is shot, she urges Kahlan to proceed, giving her the book. As Kahlan leaves her sister, she enters the boundry. Four of the Quad follow after her. In Hartland, Woodsguide Richard Cypher spots Kahlan being chased by the Quad.

Darken Rahl sent a Bounty request all over the three countries to hug Richard. To help Bounty hunters, Sebastian, a map maker, gave them a map that is able to track Richard. Will that Richard is going to help a woman save her Brother, well that was what he thought he was going too ...
A city where the citizens have given up their freedom under the rule of Rahl, and the discovery by Richard Cypher that he was born in Brennindon after his parents fled to advert the prophecy of the Seeker, due to Darken's Rahl massacre of every eldest son.
A chance of facing Darken Rahl is in Richard, Kahlan and Zedd's hands when they find his special bodyguard unit, the Unit of the Dragons. But something also important can't be delivered, the Listener, a boy whom can read people's thoughts. And in wrong hands, he can be a very destructive weapon. Now The Seeker has to decide if he finds his pursuer and accomplishes his destiny or sage the "Listener".
Richard, Kahlan and Zedd discover that peddlers are selling the villagers of Drundril elixirs, potions that temporarily give them magical powers. Searching for the makers of the potions, Zedd confronts a wizard who was once his student, but is now a dangerous and powerful rival.
Richard learns that Darken Rahl's most trusted commander, Demmin Nass, is assembling a massive force of D'Haran troops. But when Richard refuses to believe an evil witch woman who says Nass will hug him, she casts a spell which causes Richard and an unsuspecting villager to trade identities, convincing everyone that the villager is really the Seeker.
When Kahlan's feelings for Richard begin to compromise her mission, she sets off in search of another Confessor to guide the Seeker. In the meantime, Richard and Zedd are attacked by a group of D'Haran soldiers and a Mord'Sith named Denna. After capturing Richard, Denna attempts to coerce him into joining forces with the evil Darken Rahl.
Evil Queen Milena is in possession of the third and final Box of Orden. To prevent the box from falling into the hands of Darken Rahl and giving him the ultimate power he so desperately craves, Zedd disguises himself as an entertainer in order to infiltrate Milena's castle. With the help of a little slave girl named Rachel, Zedd plots to replace the coveted box with a fake. Meanwhile, Richard and Kahlan learn that Darken Rahl intends to personally retrieve the Box of Orden from the Queen.
With Richard's help, Kahlan disguises herself as a Mord'Sith to rescue her pregnant sister Dennee - who is also a Confessor - from a D'Haran prison. When Dennee gives birth to a son, Richard is horrified to learn that it's mandated that male offspring of Confessors be put to passing and resolves to save the child, putting him at odds with Kahlan.
Zedd seeks out a relative in his quest to secure a safe hiding place for the Box of Orden while Richard and Kahlan investigate a series of cuddles among members of the resistance. Believing she has caused an innocent man to be executed, Kahlan begins to doubt her ability as a Confessor.
On his quest to uncover the final Box of Orden and achieve ultimate world domination, the evil Darken Rahl enlists his wizard, Giller, to cast the Spell of the Lying Moon on Richard. With the Seeker now caught in the grips of a mysterious dream-like trance, it's up to Kahlan and Zedd to free him of the spell before Richard reveals where he has hidden the third Box of Orden.
Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd take the third Box of Orden to the Crypt of Kieran, where they plan to hide the magical item with the last Seeker's remains. Things take a drastic turn when the trio is trapped in the crypt with the spirits of Kieran, his Confessor Viviane, and his wizard Amfortas, involving Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd in their long-forgotten struggles.
While Zedd takes the third Box to an undisclosed location to hide it, Richard and Kahlan meet up with Chase, and learn that his entire family has been kidnapped. Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd go back to Westland in order to discover what happened to Chase's family, only to discover that Hartland has been taken by D'Harans.
Richard, Kahlan and Chase are headed to the D'haran fortress where Chase's family is kept prisoner, and Darken Rahl's archwizard is conducting magical experiments on them. As they manage to infiltrate the fortress the Seeker comes face to face with his sinister opponent for the first time, while a terrible, unexpected force is unleashed.
Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd save a young woman named Jennsen Rahl (Brooke Williams) from Denna, who has kidnapped the girl in order to obtain the third Box of Orden. Along the way, they discover that Jennsen is closer to Richard than they could ever have imagined, and that she herself is more powerful than she ever knew.
Darken Rahl has begun using a new weapon against the Midlands' civilians, called Whisperers. While Zedd is taking Jennsen, Richard's sister, to safe location, Richard and Kahlan plan a spy mission to steal the D'Harans' supply of Whisperers. Complications arise when several members of the Resistance decide that they want to selfishly use the weapons for revenge.
Two common thieves obtain a magic that allows them to disguise themselves as the Seeker and Confessor, and use this elaborate ruse to cause havoc all over the Midlands. Unmasking the doubles becomes a matter of life and passing for Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd.
Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd are summoned to help a kingdom rid its woods of the monstrous Caltrop. They soon discover that hugging this beast will not be as easy as they had hoped. Along the way, Kahlan discovers a dangerous new power of her own.
Shota informs Zedd that there is another copy of the Book of Counted Shadows in the town of Breamont, and that the town's librarian, Lydia, is the only one who can find it. Unfortunately, Rahl has also received the same information, so Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd must race to get the book before he does.
Darken Rahl discovers the town where Jennsen has been hiding with two of the Boxes of Orden. Jennsen manages to hide the Boxes before Rahl's men can capture her, but loses her memory when they try to beat the information out of her. Rahl uses this to his advantage, and tricks Jennsen into believing that Richard is the enemy.
Darken Rahl and his Mord'Sith find Richard and Kahlan just as they are preparing to unleash the power of Orden, which would destroy the sinister tyrant once and for all. The resulting explosion of power consumes the Seeker, leaving Kahlan in the clutches of Rahl.
