Jonathan Pine finds himself in the middle of the chaos of the Arab Spring in 2011, as he works his way through the rioting crowds to to make his way to Cairo's luxurious Nefertiti Hotel where he works as the night manager. As he attempts to help some frantic tourists, Pine is approached by Sophie Alekan, the mistress of the hotel's owner, who shares some files with him evidencing an arms deal taking place between Hamid and a man called Richard Roper.
Roper is at his grand villa in Mallorca, where he and his entourage are getting ready for a lavish meal on the island. They are later confronted by a couple of robbers who kidnap Roper's son, Daniel. A mysterious man lurks in the shadows and not everything is not what it seems.
A glamorous party hosted by Roper's business associate Juan Apostol, in honour of Juan's daughter's birthday is in full swing. Things take a tragic turn though after the guest of honour is found dead.
Working for Roper and living under the guise of Andrew Birch, Pine becomes fully immersed in Roper's world and is getting ready for his first business deal. Pine and Jed's relationship develops and tension increase as Corky's jealousy gets the better of him and he threatens to expose Pine.
Having discovered that Burr has acquired crucial documents about the upcoming arms deal, Roper's suspicions that he has a traitor within his team increase. Pine, still working under the guise of Andrew Birch, goes with Roper on a trip to The Haven, where he is required to show the weapons to Barghati.
Pine returns to where everything all began, the Nefertiti Hotel in Cairo. Going with Roper to lead the final business transfer with Barghati, Pine is concerned that his cover could be blown after he comes face to face with hotel owner, Freddie Hamid.
