Kate Thornton presents the first of the audition shows of the second series of X Factor. Shayne Ward impresses all the judges with his rendition of 'Sacrifce'. Sarah does not do nearly as well with her performance of 'I Believe I Can Fly' and leaves the audition room in tears after hearing the judges comments. Trevor Hodgson at just 16 manges to impress all the judges and makes it through. Spirit And Destiny manage to get on the wrong side of the judges and don't make it through. Others to impress and make it through included Alexandra Burke, Andy Abraham and The Brothers.
More highlights from the audition process. James Bellamy and Addictive Ladies impress the judges and make it through to the next round. Simon is shocked when Louis and Sharon put through 82 year old Dorothy Morrison. The judges ears are subjected to yet more awful auditions. 4 Tune who just missed out on a place in the finals last year return and make it through to bootcamp again.
It's the third week of the open auditions. Journey South impress the judges and make it through to the next round. Charlotte is told that she can't sing by Simon and Louie and is comforted by Sharon afterwards. Aaron and Phillip impress the judges and make it through. Penélope Gómez has Louis and Sharon in fits of laughter with her singing voice and Simon is shocked when they put her through.
Kate is back with the fourth of the audition shows. The judges are split on their decision whether Rachel should be put through and in the end she doesn't make it. Michelle Thorne impresses Simon and makes it through to the next round. The judges are subjected to more awful renditions including one from Kerry who claims to be 48 but the judges think she looks older. Total Eclipse are not happy with Simon's comments and storm out of the audition room. Joanne Hindley and Chenai Zinyuku both manage to impress all the judges and easily make it through to the next round.
The auditions continue with the judges still having to listen to awful renditions. Eskimo Blonde manage to impress the judges and are safely through. Michelle Foster who never made it through last time returns for another go and this time makes it through.
Kate returns to prsent the final of the audition shows. Haifa Kayali and Daniel Riesner impress the judges and make it through. Richard and Christopher are not so fortunate though and are conforted by Kate afterwards. Nicholas Dorsett gives a great performance and easily makes it through. The audition process comes to an end and the judges look forward to finding out which section of the competition they will be in charge of.
Kate introduces the show from bootcamp where the acts who have made it through from the auditions learn for the first time which of the judges will be their mentor. Sharon is the mentor for the over 25's while Louis is the mentor for the under 25's leaving Simon in charge of the groups. By the end of the first day each judge has to whittle down the amount of people in their section of the competition even further leaving many of the hopefuls disappointed that the competition ends here for them.
The judges have to whittle down the remaining acts they have left even further. Kate is on hand to offer support to those who miss out. By the end of the show each judge is forced to pick their final seven acts.
The final seven acts in each category have one last chance to impress the judges in their homes before the judges must decide who they will take through as their final four.
The judges choose their final four and have to drop three acts each. Andy, Maria, Brenda and Chico learn that they are in Sharon's final four leaving Haifa, Ritchie and Joanne just missing out. Simon picks 4Tune, Conway Sisters, Journey South and Addictiv Ladies leaving Eskimo Blonde, The Brothers and 4thBa5e disappointed at missing out. Louis' final four are Chenai, Shayne, Phillip and Nicholas. James, Trevor and Alexandra are all disappointed not to make it through.
Kate presents the first of the finals with the twelve acts performing live for the first time. Most of the acts perfom well. Shayne, Brenda and Andy receive the best comments from the judges. Once all twelve have finished performing the phone lines are opened for the public vote.
Kate returns with the results and Addictiv Ladies and Chico find out that they are in the bottom two. After both acts have sang again in the final showdown Simon and Sharon elect to save their own acts leaving Louis with the casting vote. Louis decides to save Chico leaving Addictiv Ladies as the first act eliminated from the competition.
The eleven remaining finalists sing for the second time. It's a good night all round for most of the acts and it is difficult to call who will be going home. Phillip gives a much better performance than last week. Once all eleven acts have finished singing the phone lines are opened.
Kate returns with the results of tonight's viewer vote. Chenai and 4 Tune discover that they have polled the lowest amount of votes and have to sing again in the final showdown. Simon and Louis both vote to save their acts leaving Sharon having to decide who to save. Sharon finally decides to save Chenai leaving 4 Tune eliminated from the competition and Simon with just two acts left.
Kate introduces the ten remaining acts left in the competition. Simon decribes the performances of Phillip and Chico as bizarre. All the judges agree that Maria gave a great performance. Once everyone has finished singing the phone lines are opened for this week's vote.
The remaining acts wait nervously as Kate returns with the results of tonight's viewer votes. Simon is not surprised when Phillip and Chico are the bottom two and have to sing again in the final showdown. Both Louis and Sharon vote to save their own acts leaving Simon with the casting vote. Simon elects to save Chico leaving Phillip eliminated from the competition.
Kate Thornton is back with the nine remaining acts. It's a great night with most of the performers receiving good comments from the judges. Once all nine have performed the phone lines are opened for the public vote.
Kate reveals that Chenai and Nicholas are in the bottom two this week. Both perform again in the final showdown after which Simon decides to save Nicholas and Sharon decides to save Chenai. Louis is left in the impossible position of having to decide which one of his acts to save. Louis finally decides to save Nicholas leaving Chenai eliminated from the competition.
Kate returns with the eight remaining acts having to perform for the 5th time. Some of the performers struggle on tonight's show and receive bad reviews from the judges. Once all eight acts have performed the phone lines are opened for tonight's vote.
Kate returns with the all important results. The audience are shocked when they discover that Maria is in the bottom two with The Conway Sisters. Both acts perform again in the final showdown after which Simon and Sharon opt to save their own acts. Louis decides to save The Conway Sisters while the audience boos in disapproval.
The seven remaining acts perform once again. Nicholas struggles with his performance and is told by Simon that it was off key. There are some great performances from Shayne, Brenda and Andy. Once all the performers have sang the phone lines are opened for the public vote.
Kate returns with the results and announces that Shayne, Journey South, Brenda, Andy and Chico are all through to next week. Nicholas and The Conway Sisters have to sing again in the final showdown. When Louis and Simon pick their own acts to make it through it is left to Sharon to cast the deciding vote. Sharon decides to save The Conway Sisters leaving Nicholas eliminated from the competition.
The six remaining finalists return to perform once more. As usual, the judges give their opinions before viewers vote on who stays in the competition. The Conway Sisters are told by Simon that he doesn't think their performance was good enough to stay in the competition.
It comes as no big surprise later in the evening when Kate returns with the results that The Conway Sisters are in the bottom two. They are joined in the bottom two by Chico and both acts perform again in the final showdown. Both Sharon and Simon decide to save Chico leaving The Conway Sisters eliminated from the competition.
Andy, Brenda, Chico, Journey South and Shayne return to perform once more. Tonight each performer will sing twice. From this point onwards in the show the public will decide who is eliminated at the end of the show. Mentors Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne give their opinions before viewers vote on who stays in the competition.
Kate returns with this week's results and announces that Shayne, Brenda and Journey South have all made it through. Andy and Chico are left on stage where Kate announces that Andy has also made it through.
Andy, Brenda, Journey South and Shayne perform live in the studio but only three can go through to next week's final. All the judges are impressed by Brenda's performance. Once all the acts have performed the phone lines are opened for the public vote.
Kate returns with the results of the most important vote in the series so far. Kate announces that Andy and Shayne are through to the final leaving Journey South and Brenda on stage waiting to find out who has got the final place. Kate then announces that Journey South are through making it an all male final.
Kate Thornton returns to host the final of X Factor. Steve, Journey South and Andy all perform three times tonight. Once they have all performed the phone lines are opened for the public vote.
The three acts join Kate and the judges on stage where Journey South learn that they have finished in third place. Andy and Steve then perform the song which the winner will release called 'That's My Goal'. Kate then returns to announce that Shayne has won the final.
