DCI Morton is a detective who has flown in to the peaceful close-knit community of Fortitude, as the local head of police leads an investigation into a cuddle. Professor Stoddart is a British scientist heading up the Arctic Biology department at the Fortitude Arctic Research Centre. Hildur Odegard is the Governor of Fortitude and Henry Tyson is a wildlife photographer who only has weeks left to live.

Surrounded by the savage beauty of the polar landscape, its future sparkling with the promise of Arctic opportunity, wealth and discovery, Fortitude is one of the safest towns on earth. There has never been a unhappy crime here. Until now!
