Shortly after graduating with a business degree from USC Marshall School of Business, she secured a loan (with her parents as co-signers) and purchased Lido Di Manhattan in June of 2004, at the ripe old age of 23. Having been left with a strong staff, including a veteran cook in the kitchen, Lisa felt secure and confident in her decision to become the next great Los Angeles restaurateur. Five years later, Lisa is struggling to pay her bills and has come to the harsh realization that she is barely making ends meet. Chef Ramsay gives Lisa a lesson in restaurant business 101.
Chef Ramsay visits a "high end" Bistro in Lighthouse Point, FL. British born chef, Andy Trousdale, has spent his entire adult life training and working under a variety of chefs. After living in the Caribbean for years, Andy met his wife, Elin, and was ready to try his luck stateside and open a restaurant of their own. He and his wife decided to take over a restaurant called Le Bistro, which they decided to overhaul the menu and have been unsuccessful trying to attract customers on a regular basis. Stubborn chef and owner Andy doesn't respond well to Gordon's criticisms and tempers flare.
Casa Roma, a Lancaster, CA, Italian eatery, packs in the customers at the bar, but the restaurant is nearly empty every single night. With a kitchen staff that has no idea what's going on, outdated decor, and owners who have zero restaurant experience, this is not going to be easy! Chef Ramsay visits a Mexican restaurant named Mama Rita's in Newbury Park, CA. Some of Laura's favorite memories involve cooking in the kitchen with her grandmother, Mama Rita, so this recent divorcee and mother of two decided to open her own catering company. When the catering company became very successful, Laura opened her own restaurant. She could not resist the temptation for bigger and better things. Laura opened the doors of Mama Rita's in honor of her late grandmother. Shortly after opening the restaurant, Laura was hit with the hard reality that a love for cooking and catering doesn't necessarily translate into running a successful restaurant. Laura is in way over her head. She is losing money and the restaurant is losing money at an exponential rate. Chef Ramsay will have to implement some new fresh ideas to get Mama Rita's running like a restaurant and not like a catering business
