Francesca is at the centre of an escalating gangland turf-war and after her home is set alight with her family inside, she wants to run away but is persuaded by her husband Paul that he will keep her safe. Kim finds her perfect world being turned upside-down after her husband is accused of the most shocking of crimes. Kim believes that the allegation is malicious, but as her husband is sent to prison on remand, nobody will listen to her. Harriet is pleased that her son Gavin has found friendship with a group of Muslim inmates and wants to convert to Islam.
Kim wants to prove her husband's innocence and get him released from prison but nobody seems willing to help her. She realises that the only way she can help her husband is to come clean about a secret she'd rather never came out. Francesca begins money laundering for her husband's business. Harriet attempts to take her relationship with prison chaplain Ian to the next level.
Francesca decides to offer her drug-dealing son Matt some tough love and attempts to sort things out with her father and daughter. She also decides to put the family 'business' on the back burner for now. DCI Fontaine's surveillance is increasing though and Francesca could be in too deep. Aisling attempts to deal with the devastating news that her father is dying and she ends up finding comfort in Matt rather then Ben. Harriet's affair with Ian continues but after Gavin's actions break prison security, Ian is professionally compromised with some shocking consequences.
After Francesca is released from custody, she is upset to find out that her father and daughter want nothing to do with her. She finally ends up realising that being a good mother and a gangster's wife dont go together but as she is prepared to go straight, her worst nightmares ends up being realised. Mick's release from prison is not a happy event as Kim is desperate to rebuild their marriage, but he is felling traumatised by his imprisonment and wants nothing to do with her. Harriet is upset after Ian ends their relationship.
