Connie gets an unwelcome shock when she discovers John's true identity. Meanwhile, it is Chrissie's first day back, but can she forget the past and move on? And when Faye watches Joseph with a pregnant Daisha, she starts to wonder if he will ever be happy without his own child.
Connie is in turmoil because of her relationship with John, but will she stop seeing him? And, after complications with the venue, Joseph wants to bring the date of his and Faye's wedding forward. What's making Faye hesitate?
Michael's eye is caught by Jac at work. Joseph finds home life tough with Faye but finds it just as tough at work with Daisha.
Joseph tries to deliver Daisha's baby whilst they are stuck in the lift together. Michael has his wife replaced from the surgery team he is working with but her replacement Jamie puts a patent's life in danger.
Things go from bad to worse for Ric during the opening of the newly refurbished Keller Ward when the electricity goes down and a party guest needs treatment. Meanwhile, Faye extracts the truth from Joseph about his desire to have children, and Rachel starts her first day at Holby, finding new friends in Maria and Sam. Elsewhere, anaesthetist Jamie suffers an accident.
Whilst Faye is trying to get some "space", Joseph has the fright of his life when he wakes up to a nightmare scenario. How will he keep it a secret? Maria, meanwhile, is let down - yet again - by Donna.
Joseph's worried if anyone knows he spent the night with Jac - will they say anything to Faye? Elsewhere, Kyla gets ready to hand her notice in. Donna, meanwhile, drops a bombshell on Maria and Sam has a meeting that could change his life...
Ric learns a drug-addicted patient was his late son Leo's partner. As Sam gets to know Kieron, he comes to realise what sacrifices his son is prepared to make for their relationship.
Ric's mind is on Michelle and the grandson he never knew he had as he attempts a risky operation on Callie. A meeting with prospective adoptive parents leaves Daisha even more confused about her baby's future, and Maria learns the truth about Sam's relationship with Kieron. Donna sets to work single-handedly saving Christmas when the staff party is cancelled by hospital management.
Struggling to deal with her feelings for both Sam and Kieron, Maria consults a clairvoyant. She is shown visions of her life in the past, present and future, which help her come to a decision. With only Faye offering her any assistance, Donna is missing the nurse's company as she prepares for the Christmas party and begins to doubt their friendship. Sam's bond with his newly discovered son is threatened by his awareness of Kieron's relationship with Maria, but with everything out in the open, the surgeon realises where his priorities lie
Ric agrees to help Michelle stay off drugs when she arrives at the hospital to inform him of social services threats to take his grandson away from her. Donna helps Maria look for a lost patient and allows her friend to take the credit when they find him unconscious. She uses her shugs from theatre to keep him alive, but it is Maria who gets the credit. Linden is delighted when Callie finally wakes from her coma and tries to protect her from the truth about the accident and the police, who want to speak to her about drink driving.
Mark calls the police when Daisha goes missing, but as they focus inquiries on him, he begins to fear the worst. Faye tells Joseph their relationship is finished, but Elliot tries to intervene. Michael is still discovering how working with Annalese will affect his personal and professional lives, and Linden realises he has become too involved with Callie and her problems.
After Joseph lets Faye down over the baby's christening he tries to convince her that he can be reliable. Tom, an ex druggie friend of Ric's son, joins the team as a medical student. Mark tries to help Daisha.
Joseph worries that Jac may be pregnant when she complains of feeling sick. Ric battles to save the lives of a security guard and the drug addict who cuddled her while at the same time trying to placate the victim's fiance and the Press. After confessing to his priest about his feelings for an engaged woman, Linden learns Callie knows the truth about the night of the accident
Connie hijacks Ric's attempts to gain the public relations initiative after the cuddle of the security guard, by planning to perform a high profile operation. Maddy saves the day when the excesses of the night before put Tom under stress, and the opening of the new creche fails to solve Daisha's problems with Joe, so Rachel offers to take care of the infant to allow her a night off.
Ric's initiative for zero tolerance of patients who refuse to help themselves or abuse hospital staff makes it clear to Connie he has no intention of quitting as director of surgery. Joseph continues to be distracted by fears that Jac is pregnant, Maddy suffers after her night out with Tom, and Maria makes use of Sam's car but is upset by the realisation he has no plans to return from America.
Annalese suspects Michael is being unfaithful and rummages through his belongings, hunting for evidence. Ric refuses to treat an obese man as part of his zero tolerance policy, but promises Connie he does not intend to stay long as director of surgery. Daisha's friends throw her a surprise birthday party, and Joseph continues to struggle with his guilt over his night with Jac.
Joseph plots to get Jac permanently out of his life after Faye voices her suspicions that the registrar is pregnant. When Ric admits he has not resigned, Connie is determined to undermine his campaign and suggests one of his patients has surgery instead of following her rival's healthy eating plan, while Daisha feels guilty for failing to notice that Joe has developed an infection
Joseph dreads Jac's impending announcement, certain she is going to reveal details of their night together. Frankie's father confronts Connie when he discovers he has to pay for his son's operation, and Chrissie returns to work as an agency nurse on the private ward. Mark and Rachel worry about Daisha when she fails to arrive for her shift and neither she nor Joe is anywhere to be found.
Michael receives a shock when a nurse he once had an affair with begins working on his private ward. Meanwhile, Linden is forced to put his own feelings to one side as he helps Faye with the emotional fallout of her break-up with Joseph, and Elliot's prodigal daughter Martha returns from Las Vegas with some surprising news. Hari Dhillon, Paul Bradley and Duncan Pow star.
Jayne and Connie test Ric's Zero Tolerance policy when they attempt to get him to treat an overweight VIP patient. Annalese has suspicions about Donna's relationship with Michael.
Things get out of control as Michael tries to save his marriage to Annalese. When Linden finds something out about Jac it puts him in a tough position. Chrissie attempts to discover if Daisha is using Mark.
Following the VIP patient's passing Ric has to deal with the aftermath. Faye attempts to win Joseph back. A discovery about Martha's husband is made by Elliot.
When the ward is hit by a chemical contamination Jac and Joseph find themselves stuck in theatre mid-operation. They end up talking about how they feel when they are worried that they will not get out alive. Connie wonders what is going on when Annalese disappears from a major operation.
ie is not happy when Michael refuses to back her against Ric. Connie finds out about Annalese's mistake in the Hewitt operation. Martha's attempts to help Elliot and Ben get closer dont go as planned.
Following a patient's passing, Michael and Ric attempt to get Annalese to fight to save her job. Elliot risks his job to help his dog.
Tom makes a confession to Ric before leaving. Joseph discovers his sister's secret.
Maddy's career in in danger because of her association with Tom. Daisha has to make an important decision about the baby's future. Connie lets Michael know just how much trouble Annalese is in.
Maddy's twin sister Hannah shows up in the AAU needing her help. Donna tries to cheer Michael up. Elliott tries to find out what is wrong with Ben.
Chrissie makes Daisha realise that Mark really loves her. Maddy proves to Ric how good she really is. Connie tries to forget the fact that it is her birthday
Maddy is determined that nothing will stop her getting the promotion that she wants. Maria manages to gain some self-confidence.
Jac takes over an operation from Joseph in an attempt to forget about his upcoming marriage but she soon finds herself out of her depth. Martha is given some bad news.
Faye decides to be honest about everything as her wedding approaches. Faye's parents show up at the wedding unexpectedly. Jac has to run the AAU and takes her frustrations out on everyone working there.
Martha's views on marriage upset Elliott. Faye has to deal with what happened on her wedding day.
Linden finds it hard to forget about Faye. Penny tries to assert herself on the ward as she attempts to compete against her brother. Elliot isn't in the moos to celebrate his birthday.
When Connie tries to warn John about Jayne's suspicions she gets a nasty surprise. When Michael reverts to his old habits Donna is worried. Elliot is worried when somebody from his past shows up.
Michael tries to save both his daughter and his marriage. Jayne finally discovers that her husband has been cheating on her. Elliot is given the opportunity to make up for past mistakes.
Oliver and Daisha clash after he as he lands her in trouble with a patient. Donna finds her father is a patient on the ward.
Donna decides to hide her father's scans until she can get a second opinion. Chrissie finds it hard to keep the way she feels towards Oliver a secret. Penny attempts to impress Connie and Jac on the ward.
Elliot's worst fears are realised at the press conference for his new procedure. When communications break down with Joseph, Faye is left feeling shaken. Ric wonders if he has made the right decision about Donna's father.
As Donna attempts to keep Derek's spirits up on the day of his operation she ends up telling him some home truths. To try and impress the Chairman, Connie tries to distance herself from Jac but ends up realising that Jac is invaluable to her. Oliver tries to prove to everyone that he can be responsible.
Elliot has second thoughts about the pioneering heart operation and Joseph is forced to step in. At the last moment though Elliott realises that he should perform the operation. Donna is forced to say a sad farewell to her father when the decision is made to turn off his life support machine. Chrissie receives an e-mail that Oliver meant to send to Penny.
Lucy is allowed to go home following the success of Elliot and Tara's operation. Tara's contract is extends by Jayne and they work together on a case. After Elliot tells her the truth about his wife's passing, Tara considers her future at the hospital. Mark thinks that Chrissie is too old for Oliver. Connie is determined to become the new director of surgery. When she ignores Ric's instructions and operates on a patient he ends up dying of complications caused by the surgery.
Ric finds it hard to contain the press attention and has to decide if he want to be Director of Surgery or just a doctor. Joseph's paranoia about Faye continues.
Connie wants the director of surgery job and is surprised when Jayne uses the affair with John against her. Jayne is able to persuade the board to give the job to Michael before resigning and leaving the hospital. Maria lets Donna down on her return to work. Maria ends up being hit by a car outside the hospital. Joseph finds out that Faye called Linden on the day of the wedding.
Following Maria's accident, Ric tries to save her life. Ric isn't happy when he finds out that Michael is the new director of surgery but they are forced to work together to help Maria.
Chrissie celebrates her birthday and Oliver invites her out for a drink. Chrissie finds out that she is pregnant and decides to have dinner with her father instead of going out with Oliver. A fracture is discovered in Maria's spine. When Maria wakes up she has no feeling in the lower part of her body.
Michael is not happy when Connie undermines him. Connie is given the green light for her robotic surgery project. Donna tries to lift Maria's spirits and tries to get her to make friends with another patient on the ward.
Faye attempts to win over Joseph but when Archie becomes sick and is admitted to the hospital she finds her priorities changing. Linden is confronted by Joseph about the kiss he shared with Faye on their wedding day. Elliot manages to save Archie's life. Maria learns that she could be paralysed for life and that her only chance is an operation which could cost her everything.
